Barron Trump's Tall Frame Boosts His Chances in College Basketball
Barron Trump, at 17 years old, is the youngest and only child of former President Donald Trump and his ex-wife Melanie Trump. He mostly stays away from the spotlight, but due to recent reports suggesting he's grown to 6'7", there's been some curiosity about where the Trump Organization heir might enroll in college and play basketball.
Sportsbooks like Bovada are now taking bets on where Barron will pursue higher education. Melanie has mentioned before how Barron is a massive sports fan, specifically soccer and basketball enthusiast.
The teenager currently resides in Florida at Donald and Melanie's Mar-a-Lago estate. Bovada considers the University of Miami as the leading choice for Barron to attend, with odds of +300. But since Donald and Melanie have connections to New York as well, and own a penthouse at Trump Tower in Midtown Manhattan, St. John's University in Queens is also listed at +300.
Other schools with odds include Florida State and University of Connecticut at +500, Michigan State at +700, Kentucky at +850, and Duke and UNC at +1000.
Hidden Talent
Barron's parents generally keep him away from the public eye. Since the Trumps moved out of Washington D.C., Barron has gone to Oxbridge Academy in West Palm Beach. This private college preparatory school founded in 2011, was funded through a $50 million donation from billionaire Bill Koch. The Koch family, known for donating to the Republican Party, owns Koch Real Estate Investments, which recently acquired the unfinished Fontainebleau Las Vegas and is working on its opening as a casino on the Las Vegas Strip.
Oxbridge boasts athletic programs, including its Thunderwolves team that competes in the Florida High School Athletic Association. However, Barron Trump is not listed as a player in the boys' varsity basketball roster on the Thunderwolves' website.
It's unclear whether Barron will join his high school's basketball team during his senior year. But Bovada is still taking bets about which NBA team might draft him. The New York Knicks stand as favorable at +200.
The remaining top six likely teams include the Miami Heat (+275), Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics (+500), and Golden State Warriors and Chicago Bulls (+700). The odds for Barron being a first-round pick in the NBA Draft are slim at +5000.
Presidential Children in College
The children of past presidents and ex-presidents have a variety of options when it comes to higher education. Malia Obama, daughter of Barack Obama, studied at Harvard University before graduating. Her younger sister Sasha, two years Malia's junior, enrolled in the University of Michigan but later switched to and ultimately graduated from the University of Southern California. President Joe Biden's kids, Beau, Hunter, and Ashley, respectively attended the University of Pennsylvania, Georgetown, and Tulane. Beau, unfortunately, passed away. Hunter attended Georgetown for undergrad, while Ashley earned her degree from Tulane. Former President George W. Bush's twin daughters, Barbara and Jenna, chose Yale and the University of Texas for their undergrad studies. Barbara went on to study at Harvard University afterward.
