Baltimore Ravens lose running back J.K. Dobbins to season-ending injury
Baltimore Ravens running back J.K. Dobbins suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in the NFL season opener against the Houston Texans.
The injury occurred in the third quarter when Dobbins was tackled at the two-yard line. He nearly missed his second touchdown of the game.
"You can have a J.K. Don't replace him," Ravens linebacker Kevin Zeitler said. "He's a special guy, both football-wise and personality-wise. He helps his team keep moving forward and more. It was an absolute slap in the face and heartbreaking. "
Dobbins rushed the ball eight times and added two receptions before being injured. He gained 37 yards and a touchdown from scrimmage.
The Ravens defeated the Texans 25-9. Backup running back Justice Hill replaced Dobbins and scored two touchdowns.
The Ravens lost three more starters, including two offensive linemen, to the Texans. In the final preseason game of the 2021 season, Dobbins suffered a season-related knee injury. He missed the entire 2021 season and did not return to the Ravens until midway through the 2022 season. Dobbins enters the season with plenty of optimism, especially since this is the final year of his contract. He says he's 100 percent healthy for the first time in three seasons, which makes his current situation even more heartbreaking.

A ruptured Achilles tendon injury typically takes 18 months to heal, so Dobbins is expected to miss the remainder of the season and possibly most of the 2024 season. Running backs typically recover from serious knee injuries, but Achilles tendon injuries can jeopardize their careers.

The Ravens selected Dobbins, an All-American running back out of Ohio State, with a second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
