Bally's name officially appears on former Trump golf course in the Bronx

A golf course in the Bronx, New York, once named for Trump, is now officially called "Bally Links," after the area casino operator.

The change was made on Thursday, meaning the large sign that read "Trump Link" is no longer there. Bally's paid $60 million to the Trump Organization, the former president's business empire, for a lease on the Trump golf course at Ferry Point in the Bronx. That's the conclusion his son, Donald Trump Jr., came to in a statement released in a New York court in November.

Barry followed through on his promise to remove Trump's name from the golf course, with the sign removal being the final step in the process. Democratic New York Mayor Eric Adams was among the dignitaries attending the renaming of the golf course, underscoring New York's political leanings and the city's disdain for the 45th president. The city had previously tried to evict Trump from Ferry Point Links, but the attempt proved unsuccessful.

The city and the Trump Organization reached an agreement in 2015 to extend the lease for 20 years. In 2021, former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, a Democrat, attempted to terminate the agreement, citing the January 6, 2021, riots at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC. Call. No criminal court has yet found the 45th president guilty of crimes related to Jan. 6, and in April 2022, a Manhattan Supreme Court judge ruled that de Blasio was wrong to terminate the agreement.

Bally’s Bets at the Bronx Casino

Bally's, which operates 17 casinos in nine states, acquired the lease for a Bronx golf course to secure one of three downstate gaming licenses that New York regulators will eventually grant.

Rumors that Bally's was considering opening a casino hotel in New York date back to at least 2021, and it is one of nearly a dozen operators vying for those approvals sometime later this year or 2025.

Amid speculation that two of the licenses are essentially reserved for MGM Resorts International's Empire City Casino in Yonkers and Resorts World Genting New York in Queens, tiers are being drawn up for potential winners of the other license. Industry observers speculate that Caesars Entertainment Corp., Las Vegas Sands Corp. and Wynn Resorts could be among the frontrunners.

On the other hand, Bally's and several other competitors, as well as companies like Hard Rock International and Mohegan Gaming, are considered to be in the definite underdog camp. Rhode Island-based Bally's has not yet commented on its golf course plans unless it obtains one of three casino licenses.

Bronx classes part of Trump's New York divorce

Although Donald Trump gained much of his wealth and celebrity status in New York, the former president's hometown has not been kind to him in recent years.

To the delight of many in the left-leaning city, Trump's name has been removed from several venues he has frequented, including a Bronx golf course.

However, at least ten commercial and residential properties, including the iconic Trump Tower, remain named after the Republican front-runner. The privately held Trump Organization owns 16 properties in New York City.
