Celebrity Janin Ullmann (42) addresses sexual harassment in media. - "Avoid donning short dresses when walking outside at night."

In today's world, I tend to opt for wearing sneakers and a hoodie during the evenings for my own comfort and security. According to Ullmann, the sight of women donning short skirts and high heels on the streets at night might prompt certain men to harass them.

"Limiting Personal Freedom"

Janin Ullmann is not an exception. 83% of women between the ages of 16 and 39 in the EU are restricting their personal freedoms to prevent violence and harassment, as per a survey conducted by the agency of the European Union.

In Berlin, 72% of the surveyed women confessed to not feeling secure in public spaces. A study conducted by the Plan International e.V. association on the perceived safety of women in German cities is responsible for revealing this.

From the pool of 1,000 designated locations in Germany, 80% were deemed unsatisfactory. The women pointed out intrusive comments, such as those made during a jog in the park, poorly lit streets, or even pursuit and unwanted physical contact.

One in four females has endured sexual harassment, and one in five has been insulted, followed, or threatened. In Berlin, the Interior State Secretary Christian Hochgrebe (51, SPD), revealed through a parliamentary inquiry that there are 111 instances of group rape in the city annually - an ever-increasing occurrence.

Ullmann: Your Phone and Keys are Your Best Friends

Ullmann offers her best defense to "Bunte": In potentially hazardous situations, she's picked up her phone to call for help or pretended to call for support. Having her keys as a likely weapon has given her a sense of security.

It's not the fault of women that they're targeted for harassment or the fault of high heels and short skirts, but rather the fault of the individual causing the harassment.

A survey on the TikTok platform supports Ullmann's perspective: For weeks, women have been debating whether they'd rather encounter a bear or a man alone in a forest. The majority overwhelmingly chose the bear.
