Radicalism - Authorities probe video showing Nazi salute post-cup match.
There's been a disturbing incident at the Hesse Cup final between Kickers Offenbach and Türk Gücü Friedberg. A bystander seems to have made the Nazi salute during the match. The authorities have taken notice of this and are now investigating the matter.
This was brought to light via a video that surfaced on social media. In the video, Kickers fans could be seen making obscene gestures towards the Türk Gücü fans. But it's the last few seconds of the clip that will make you cringe. One of the supporters was seen giving the infamous, banned Nazi salute. Such an act is considered a crime in Germany.
The police had already noticed the video on the final day itself, but it gained importance once it went viral.
Kickers Offenbach, in response to this, released a statement on Sunday. They expressed their deep disapproval of the individuals involved in the incident and promised to cooperate with the authorities in identifying those involved.
The Hesse Cup final saw Kickers clinching a 3-2 victory. Offenbach is an old and well-respected football club and this incident has put them in a bad light.
