Six-year-old Arian from Bremervörde has gone missing. - Authorities are utilizing 18 drones for their investigation at this location.
On the 22nd of April, a boy on the autism spectrum vanished from his family's home in the Bremervörder area of Elm (Lower Saxony). Despite a massive search with a possible involvement of up to 1,200 first responders, there were no signs of him to be found.
Five days later, the authorities carried out a search along the Oste River. The area covered by the search, from Elm to the Elbe and subsequently into the North Sea, was examined in its entirety using drones.
18 drones for a 70-kilometer stretch of river
This 70-kilometer stretch was split into four sectors for the operation, with roughly 60 emergency services in attendance. As many as 18 drones were deployed. Police spokesman Heiner van der Werp confirmed, "A number of teams flew over the areas ranging from Bremervörde to Gräpel, Gräpel to Hechthausen, Hechthausen to the east, and east to the estuary."
The search teams primarily targeted something referred to as "Pütten" - these are small ponds created by soil excavation for dyke construction. They are not easily navigable with regular vessels. Seven of these artificial ponds line the Oste River.
Despite hours of hunting, the police concluded their search in the afternoon, as Arian could not be located. "The five-member investigation team will continue their work," noted van der Werp.
CCTV footage captured Arian frolicking in the street; however, his trail suddenly vanished. Throughout manifold searches, the authorities uncovered footprints near the water's edge, but could not undisputably pinpoint them to Arian due to him not even wearing shoes.
Police presume his disappearance was accidental. Since the river search is being conducted so intently, it stems from the fear that Arian may have drowned. Indeed, air searches by a helicopter have already been implemented.
When temperatures are cool at the beginning stages of a missing person's case, a body will sink in the water. Only when warmer water arrives, which subsequently causes a foul gas to develop, can the body resurface.
