Neustadt/Holstein: Local News - Authorities apprehend deceitful individuals behind financial campaigns.
As she approached the two men, they suddenly ran away. Quick thinking by plainclothes officers nearby allowed for the apprehension of three suspects. Police are looking at possible connections and urge vigilance against fraudulent fundraisers.
Around 4 pm, a female officer in plainclothes spotted two men acting suspiciously, speaking to mostly elderly people while claiming to be collecting donations. She decided to question one of them about their actions. The men took off running across the parking lot, entered a car containing a third man, and sped away towards Rettin. The policewoman quickly called for backup.
While searching for witnesses, she learned that the suspects may have spoken to up to 40 individuals to collect supposed donations. A patrol car crew from Neustadt police station successfully stopped and searched the desired vehicle in Schashagen. Authorities found a substantial amount of cash (in the thousands) that had possibly been obtained through deception.
The three men were brought to Neustadt police station for further inquiry and were later released after required steps were taken. There was a similar case at another Neustadt supermarket parking lot just a week prior. Law enforcement is currently examining the possibility of a connection.
Authorities offer advice for avoiding donation scams: Avoid giving money to unfamiliar individuals and rely solely on well-known institutions and charitable groups. Be wary of any tactics used to pressure or threaten you. If someone is aggressive in their approach, notify the police by dialing 110. Be wary of emotional pleas and scare tactics by fundraisers as such tactics are typical of questionable entities.
