Photographers pushed over - Attorney Faces Charges for Assault in Courtroom
In a Hamburg court in 2022, 66-year-old Dr. Kai L. created quite a commotion. The victim? A photojournalist who had previously published reports on Dr. L.'s questionable actions relating to a multi-million-euro inheritance.
Today, it's Dr. L.'s turn to face trial – this time for assault and property damage.
A courtroom incident: Broken flash, broken camera
In the courtroom, Dr. L's defense attorney interceded, claiming "I was momentarily blinded. I was just trying to grab the flash."
The photographer, Jürgen Joost (67), doesn't remember the terrifying moments: "When I was attacked, I was experiencing a film tear - I was in shock." He fell on the floor, narrowly avoiding hitting his head on the bench and injuring his back. Damaged in the process was a part of his costly camera.
At one point, Dr. L. thought he could still prevail as the estate executor for the "Fabrik der Künste's" 15 million euro inheritance, which included numerous properties belonging to the Hamm district's cultural center.
However, the court eventually dismissed Dr. L. from his role as executor.
One possible reason could be his past conviction: serving 40 months in prison for bribery and breach of trust in another financial case involving millions. But it could also be his alleged violent treatment of a journalist who got in his way.
The trial against the lawyer continues, with all witnesses who witnessed the incident in the hallway being questioned.
