Criminal records relevant to the case - Attacker who spat at Green Party politician may face imprisonment.
A 34-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman are in trouble with the law for causing damage to property and jointly assaulting someone.
The consequences for the 24-year-old could be severe. In 2023, she was sentenced by the Regional Court for assault, causing physical harm, and drug possession to serve one year and three months in prison. She was only recently released on probation. If she is convicted again, probation may be revoked.
The Incident
The violent attack on European politician Matthias Ecke (41) left people shocked. Ecke was attacked by a group of thugs on May 3rd.
Deutsche Welle's (DW) coverage of the situation caught up with green city council candidate Yvonne Mosler during her campaign in the Dresden housing estate Gorbitz on May 7th. The attack took place at Amelia Dietrich Square.
Mosler had just put up a poster when a mob passed by, shouting right-wing slogans. The 34-year-old defendant is accused of tearing down the newly hung poster (costing 50 euros in damage). Mosler had snapped a photo of it with her smartphone.
As the 34-year-old and his 24-year-old companion approached the green election team and the TV crew, they demanded that Mosler delete the photo and turn off the camera.
The brave cameraman quickly removed the camera, but left it on. The video shows the woman yelling at Mosler, calling her a "damned Green slut" and spitting in her face.
The neo-Nazi attacked Mosler once more. A passerby stepped in front of the woman to shield her but was pushed back repeatedly. Mosler eventually gave in and deleted the photo. The running camera, however, remained undiscovered by the perpetrators.
Prosecutor Schmidt: "The two accused have acknowledged part of their guilt."
