The four-week-long European Summer Championship gets underway in Germany on June 14, with Austria also participating. Odds are that the Austrian squad will include Wolfsburg attacking midfielder, Patrick Wimmer (22). Wimmer is primed to make a big impact in this tournament, but he has a very important personal event scheduled right after the Bundesliga season ends.
Following an unfortunate loss to Mainz (1:3), Wimmer tied the knot with his long-time girlfriend, Sarah, in Salzburg. The couple made the day even more memorable by donning white wedding attire.
Two years in the making, Wimmer proposed to Sarah in a unique way in May 2022. He took his betrothed to the picturesque countryside in a black pick-up truck where she was greeted by a romantic set-up on the loading area.
Patrick Wimmer: A Winning Match Before the European Championships!
Patrick shared on his Instagram, "[and] that person is also essential for my football career."
As a trained fitness trainer and dietician, Sarah was instrumental in aiding her now-husband through a demanding injury last season. When Wimmer injured his syndesmosis ligament in late October, his fiancée played a key role in his speedy recovery.
"She was invaluable in getting me back on track and making me fit again," Wimmer disclosed at the time.
But the newlyweds' honeymoon will need to be postponed. The European Championship preparation proceedings begin shortly, with Austria predicted to be the underdog favorites for the title. Before this, they'll face off against the Netherlands, Poland, and France in their group.
Interestingly, Wolfsburg's head coach, Ralph Hasenhüttl (56), who hails from Graz, is also expected to attend a few matches at the tournament since Wimmer will be representing Austria.
