Magdeburg rejoices over the championship title. - At times, renowned coach Wiegert enjoys consuming beer.
When the whistle blew, the SCM stars celebrated winning the German championship with their fans, complete with beer showers. Even the typically sober coach from Magdeburg, Bennet Wiegert (42), decided to join in and have a drink.
When it came to describing the taste of the beer, Wiegert remained honest and direct, chuckling and saying, "Eh, it was just your typical, not-so-great beer. Was this the peak of enjoyment? Not really."
Wiegert had issued an order for the team to party. "They should definitely enjoy themselves tonight. It's a unique experience - they scored a total of 84 goals this season. I'm usually quite pessimistic, but I can't quite picture how we'll manage this. So we're going to make the most of it now."
Later on, Wiegert added, "We have Monday off, so I told the team to go all out tonight. However they want to celebrate. I'll stay out of it. Once the week is over, we'll have to get back to being serious again. It won't be easy, but it's a luxury I like."
For now, neither the players nor the fans are concerned about the upcoming game against the Rhein-Neckar Lions on Thursday (8:30 p.m./Dyn).
