Court dismisses grievance - At 83 years old, Eugen Block is missing out on spending time with his grandchildren.

The owner of the Steak-Koenig restaurant chain, Eugen Block (83), has lost his appeal to the Hamburg Higher Regional Court regarding a case in the Family Court. He had been trying to get visitation rights for two of his kids who live with their dad in Denmark. The court representative confirmed this news on Thursday.

The Family Court ruled it could not handle the custody case between the parents for the children because the kids now have their lives centered in Denmark. Eugen Block had come forward with an appeal against the decision.

Christina Block and her ex-husband, along with her ex-husband and their lawyers, as well as a Youth Welfare Office representative, each appeared in the court on Wednesday.

Custody battle over four kids

The couple, Christina Block and her ex-husband, have been fighting for custody of their two younger kids, aged around 10 and 13, for years. Since late August 2021, these two children have been living with their father in Denmark and haven't returned to their mom after a visit.

The Hanseatic Higher Regional Court, which gave the mother custody in October 2021, said on February 19, 2024, that German courts were no longer capable of handling the case.

Police investigate potential child abduction

On New Year's Eve, the children were taken by unknown individuals via an operation in the middle of the night and brought to Germany. The court ordered that the mother return these kids to Denmark. The police are investigating the 51-year-old mother and her ex-husband on suspicion of unlawful confinement of minors.

The prosecution believes they organized and performed the child abduction with the assistance of additional suspected individuals.

The police have already searched and seized both commercial and private properties multiple times. The most recent raid was at the Grand Elysee hotel managed by Block near the Hamburg Dammtor train station, where around 100 officers secured the premises.
