Domino accidents in Hamburg. - As the truck makes a turn, a motorcycle collides with a scooter.
On Sunday morning, a motorcyclist and a scooter rider got hurt on Barmbeker Straße in the Winterhude district next to Jarrestraße. The incident occurred around 11 a.m. when a turning southbound articulated lorry seemed to make a quick maneuver.
Unfortunately, the truck driver didn't notice a motorcyclist (38) who was in the turning lane on his left. The incident took a turn for the worse as the motorcyclist attempted to avoid a collision, lost control of his bike, and entered oncoming traffic. There, he collided with a scooter rider (30).
Both men landed on the road, suffering severe injuries. It is still unclear whether they hit the truck beforehand, but the front of the lorry showed significant damage.
The motorcyclist and scooter rider are currently both in a serious condition, though their lives are not thought to be at risk. They received immediate aid on the scene before being transported to a hospital via ambulance. The truck driver, fortunately, remained unharmed.
The police closed down Barmbeker Straße completely for rescue operations and investigation of the accident, causing substantial traffic delays.
Investigators will now attempt to piece together what happened, as the details are still murky.
