Arrest Made at Paris Las Vegas; Bomb Blasts and Fire Incident Occurred in Restrooms

A man without a home is in trouble with the law after officials investigated a fire in the restroom at Paris Las Vegas on Monday.

The man accused, Kenny Terry, was taken into custody on charges of arson and telling lies to police. Terry was freed from jail following his appearance in court on Tuesday.

A judge warned Terry that if he was caught again, he could be locked up. His next court appearance is set for August 15.

Officers believe Terry left the restroom just before three explosions occurred there. A construction worker standing close by reported hearing the explosions and seeing blazes coming from a stall.

This construction worker tried using three fire extinguishers to put out the flames. Afterward, firefighters arrived and put the fire under control.

When firefighters looked through the wall of the restroom, they found a heap of clothing and trash, according to Clark County Deputy Fire Chief Warren Whitney in a statement reported by Las Vegas TV station KSNV.

The construction worker told police about the incidents before they looked at surveillance video and found Terry.

Terry on the Strip

Police allege that after the explosions, Terry had a stroller with a gray backpack on a Las Vegas street.

He's said to have thrown away the backpack in a trash can near the Horseshoe Las Vegas Casino and abandoned the stroller close by.

Terry also switched his coat for a black hoodie before heading to the Casino Royale Hotel & Casino parking garage.

He continued on to other casinos on the Strip - the Venetian, Treasure Island, and The Mirage - as per reports from police. Terry was last spotted on a bridge joining the Cromwell Hotel and Grand Bazaar Shops.

Paris Las Vegas security staff saw Terry near the CVS pharmacy near their gaming area on Monday night.

The guards trailed Terry until LVMPD officers took over the chase. Terry attempted to escape by running towards the Bellagio, but LVMPD officers apprehended him.

During questioning, Terry stated that he's frequently on the Strip but couldn't remember if he had been inside the Paris Las Vegas restroom.

About the stroller and backpack, Terry admitted stealing the stroller. He claimed that the backpack had a foul odor, so he discarded it, as reported by KTNV.

Later, Terry told LVMPD officers that "he wouldn't start a fire and doesn't even have lighter," as noted by KTNV.

Accelerant Found

A canine trained to find accelerants sniffed out traces of an apparent accelerant near or on Terry's discarded backpack.

At that point, the backpack was empty. The dog can detect over 400 different accelerants, and more tests are planned, as per the police.

Initial calculations of the cost to fix the damage to Paris Las Vegas were approximately $50K. Some people in the building complained of smoke inhalation, but they didn't need any medical help, the authorities said.
