Arrest arrested in violent knife attack at Montana casino

A man was arrested Thursday in connection with a stabbing incident at a Montana casino earlier this month.

The suspect, Trevor Leonard Johnson, is charged with assault with a weapon in the March 18 attack. It happened outside the Ike and Susan Lounge and Casino in Great Falls.

The incident began when Johnson and an unnamed victim, identified as one of his friends, spoke at length that night.

When the casino bar closed, the victim left the building and got into a vehicle in the parking lot.

For unknown reasons, the victim got out of the car and struck Johnson in the head once outside, police said.

In response, Johnson pulled a black switchblade from his pocket. He stabbed the victim in the abdomen and arm at least twice with a knife.

Johnson initially fled the scene. He returned a short time later and was heard saying, "It was me. I did it," regional news website MontanaRightNow.com reported.

Police arrested Johnson after the knife attack. He was taken to the Grand Rapids Police Department (GFPD).

After police heard Johnson's version of events, a GFPD officer watched video of the fight captured on casino surveillance cameras.

Victim injured

The victim was transported to a local hospital. According to MontanaRightNow.com, doctors treated him for multiple wounds and internal organs protruding from his stomach.

Additionally, hospital doctors treated the victim for stab wounds to his arm and a large wound to his abdomen, authorities said.

Police did not have an update on the victim's condition. It's unclear whether he has been discharged from the hospital.

Judge rules on probable cause

After his arrest, Johnson appeared in Cascade County Court. The judge continued the case after ruling Johnson had "probable cause" to commit the crime.

The judge also set Johnson's bail at $10,000. He also ordered Johnson not to approach the victim within 1,500 feet.

Johnson has not yet entered a plea to the charges.

It is unclear why the victim and Johnson got into an argument.

If convicted, Johnson faces up to 20 years in prison. He could also be fined up to $50,000.

There was no word yet on whether Johnson was injured in the confrontation.
