Frankenthal: City of Legends - Appeal and prison appeal filed against the court's decision
The accused's legal team has lodged an appeal and a prison appeal against the Frankenthal district court's 10-year sentence for murder, as well as other offenses. A court spokesperson confirmed this to the German Press Agency on Tuesday. Consequently, the judge's decision from April 22, which involved a juvenile sentence and the preservation of preventive detention, is not yet legally binding.
The defendant, a 21-year-old man, is accused of raping and strangling a 17-year-old girl at Willersinnweiher in Ludwigshafen in March 2020. A non-public retrial was conducted after the initial verdict's partial reversal, during which the court concluded that the defendant was guilty of murder in conjunction with rape resulting in death and sexual abuse of children on three separate occasions. Additionally, the court ordered that he be placed in preventative detention, meaning he wouldn't be released from a social therapy facility after completing his sentence.
At noon on the same day, the court announced that the defendant's appeal wouldn't be accepted. The decision remains in effect. The case is now forwarded to the Higher Regional Court for a final decision on the appeal.
