Newspaper articles relay. - Apparent Hamas terrorists plotted assaults in Germany.
A recent article in "Welt am Sonntag" reported that the Palestinian Islamic group Hamas was allegedly plotting attacks in Germany. The suspected targets were purportedly the Israeli embassy in Berlin and a US military base in Rhineland-Palatinate. The newspaper cited security officials, claiming that maps were found on the seized cell phone of a detained Hamas member in Berlin in December. These maps could have been used to scout the potential targets.
Reportedly, the Lebanese-born man arrested in Berlin in late 2023 is believed to have been involved in finding a weapons depot for Hamas in Europe since at least spring 2023. The weapons were intended for possible attacks within Europe. The order for these operations allegedly came from top military leaders within Hamas in Lebanon.
Three more suspected members of the Palestinian organization, also arrested, were said to be part of the search for potential locations.
Extensive links between Hamas supporters in Berlin and Lebanese military leaders
As per "Welt am Sonntag", there are stronger ties between Hamas supporters dwelling in Berlin and military leaders in Lebanon than previously believed. An examination of articles in online media exposed connections, especially to the southern Lebanese city of Tyre, which is considered a stronghold of Hamas and the Lebanese Hezbollah militia.
The Federal Public Prosecutor General declined to comment on the information obtained from the cell phone of the detained Hamas suspect. Instead, they referred to the ongoing investigations.
Hamas militants executed a massive attack on Israel on October 7, resulting in over 1170 fatalities, as per Israeli reports. Simultaneously, 252 hostages were taken in the Gaza Strip. In response to the attack, Israel has executed extensive military actions in the Gaza Strip. According to the unverifiable claims from the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health, over 35,800 fatalities have occurred so far.
