Meteorological conditions. - Another week kicks off with thunderstorms; some areas may face significant rainfall.

Rain and thunderstorms will prevail in certain areas of Germany in the upcoming days, informed meteorologist Jacqueline Kernn from the German Weather Service (DWD). The impact of low pressure will persist until midweek, she added. Areas with high humidity and slow-moving thunderstorms could experience significant downpours.

Flooding, cellars flooded, and underpasses are at risk, Kernn stated. "Thunderstorms might potentially expand into larger areas of precipitation, causing smaller streams and rivers to overflow."

Sunday: Sunny spells and increasing clouds

According to forecasts, Sunday will see alternating sunny spells and increasing clouds. In the northern and eastern regions, showers are likely, with potential for heavy thunderstorms and heavy rain after midday. The temperature will be between 20 and 25 degrees.

Monday: Cloudy with showers and thunderstorms

On Monday, clouds will dominate, with the possibility of heavy showers and thunderstorms mainly in central Germany and the east. Western regions will have a mainly dry day with possible occasional showers or thunderstorms. Maximum temperatures will be 19 degrees in the Eifel and around 27 degrees in Brandenburg.

Tuesday: More showers and thunderstorms in the east

On Tuesday, heavy showers and thunderstorms will likely occur in the eastern part of Germany, with the possibility of heavy rain. The western half is expected to remain largely dry, with temperatures reaching up to 22 degrees in the west and up to 25 degrees in the east.

Take shelter during thunderstorms

During thunderstorms, a lightning strike poses a risk, said Kernn. "It's best to seek shelter indoors as a precaution. You are also safe from lightning strikes in a car."

Although thunderstorms can produce squalls, especially in severe thunderstorms, the danger is currently low due to low air pressure contrasts. Since forecasting thunderstorms precisely is difficult, it's advisable to keep an eye on the weather and alerts.
