Disregarding a red traffic signal. - An elderly person aged 90 collides with an antique train.
On a Sunday morning around 10:30 am, a driver at an unprotected railroad crossing in Neckarbischofsheim, Rhein-Neckar-District, Baden-Württemberg seemingly disregarded the red signal. This led to a collision with a passing train, resulting in the driver's car being flung to the side and severely damaged.
The senior suffered minor injuries due to the collision. He was transported to the hospital through an ambulance. His own vehicle, a Mitsubishi Eclipse, did not fare well either, as it was left with only scrap value.
The misfortune didn't stop there. The accident inflicted severe damage on the collision partner, an old museum train. The Krebsbachtalbahn, a pre-1959 DB Regio Baden-Württemberg train model, carries a capacity of 41 sitting spaces and 5 bicycle racks.
Normally, it transports passengers from Neckarbischofsheim to Hüffenhardt. However, on this particular Sunday, the journey through the scenic landscapes came to a standstill when the train was damaged beyond roadworthiness, requiring towing.
The damage inflicted is estimated to cost at least €100,000, according to initial assessments. Finding replacement parts for such an old train is challenging, considering its age.
Recent History: The "Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung" previously reported a car collision with this same train last year. In the past two weeks, the train had returned from repairs.
