Analysis of the Warrant for Netanyahu's Arrest - An assault on Israel
The comparison of Israel to violent anti-Semites was clearly deliberate: Israel's battle against a terrorist group that killed over 1,000 Jews and took more than 200 hostages in a single day was intended to be labeled unjust.
In contrast to Hamas, Israel is a constitutional state with an independent judiciary: wrongdoing by its politicians or soldiers is penalized by courts that have also imprisoned prime ministers and presidents.
Chief prosecutor Khan, seemingly motivated by his vanity, does not seem to care. He didn't want to pass up the opportunity to prosecute politicians from a democratic state for the first time, even if he has to disregard Israel's legal authorities.
The Jewish state, however, has never recognized the ICC due to the legitimate concern that it could be used as a weapon by Israel's adversaries - much like the institutions of the United Nations.
Czech Prime Minister Fiala stated that the decision was "disappointing and thoroughly unacceptable," and the US government also criticized the assault on Israel's sovereignty. The German government should make its stance clear as soon as possible that it will not serve as a tool for Israel's enemies and will not carry out a potential arrest warrant against the politicians of the democratic nation of Israel.
