Well-known individual with no fixed abode - An angel accompanies Martin on his final path.
A fortnight ago, a pathway ended abruptly. A cluster of youngsters stumbled upon the homeless individual known as Martin H. Unfortunately, a 17-year-old culprit lashed out, causing serious injuries to him. Martin H. sought the intervention of authorities, filing a complaint on the night of the assault. However, due to his unwillingness for medical assistance, the police let him go.
The following day, Martin H. was discovered mirroring a critical condition in the lobby of a financial institution in Immenstadt, Bavaria. Medical staff tried tirelessly to avert the inevitable but failed as the 53-year-old succumbed to a fatal brain hemorrhage. The prime suspect was apprehended and remains in custody under allegations of manslaughter.
A week ago, Martin H. embarked on his final journey in Sonthofen, located in the Allgäu region. His beginnings were in this very place, born half a century ago. He had spent his childhood and adolescence here, renowned for his talent in soccer and expertise in tiling. His peers attest to his proficiency with his chosen trade. But one day, Martin H. shattered the established order. "He was an unbridled spirit," reminisced past companions.
Life on the Streets
From thereon, Martin H. lived a modest existence on the streets. He made Berlin his home for the last seven years, settling on a traffic island on Mehringdamm. He tapped into his artistic side, crafting intricate pieces of art from seemingly worthless refuse. An RTL documentary recommenced glimpses of his life on the street.
By the end of February, Martin H. walked a new path, returning to Immenstadt. It took him no time to warm the hearts of locals. People gathered around his park bench and engaged in long chats.
Final Resting Place in Sonthofen
Yesterday, Martin H. concluded his earthly voyage in the cemetery of Sonthofen, Allgäu district. In a heartfelt ceremony, friends and loved ones played "My Way" as they lovingly bore his urn to its final resting place. They placed a ceramic angel on the grave to escort Martin into his new life.
