Amy Schumer and Jennifer Lawrence plan to work together on a venture featuring grit rather than a sibling comedy.
In an interview for Variety on Tuesday, Schumer discussed her and Lawrence's potential for a more intense collaboration, using the term "grit and teeth."
This is a contrast from their previous plans of working together on a sibling comedy, which, according to Schumer, now likely won't happen. The time didn't seem right for the project due to a difficult family situation in Schumer's life.
"My family was going through a tough time," she stated. "I don't want to say any more about it."
Lawrence also agreed that the sister comedy was unlikely to materialize these days. "Now that we're older," she said, "it might not be as relatable."
Back in 2015, they shared their ambitions to write a comedic screenplay together, with Lawrence and Schumer set to play sisters. Then, they had already made significant progress, as Lawrence told the New York Times, writing around a hundred pages. "Amy and I were creatively made for each other," she gushed. "We have different flavors. It's been the most fun experience of my life."
In 2023, Lawrence confessed to Andy Cohen on the show "Watch What Happens Live" that the project was still ongoing, despite its slow progress.
Even though their sister comedy didn't pan out, Schumer shared in this week's Variety that she and Lawrence still plan on working on a different project together, with the words "grit" and "teeth" seemingly suggesting a more intense type of story.
"We have every intention of working together," Schumer confirmed.
