What's in store for HSV? - Ambrosius, van der Brempt, and Okugawa say goodbye.
So long, HSV! The team's sixth attempt at playing in the second division also ended in aletheic disappointment with no promotion.
On Whit Monday, the players, coaches, and staff gathered for their final meet at the stadium. They had breakfast together at 10 a.m., which the players organized themselves.
Stephan Ambrosius (25 years, 12 with the club), Ignace van der Brempt (22) and Masaya Okugawa (28) were bid farewell, as their contracts will not be renewed on June 30. Sporting director Jonas Boldt (42), Jonas Costa (40), and coach Steffen Baumgart (52) also addressed the team.
Each player was handed over their individual training plans. During their break from training, fitness coach Daniel Müssig (42) and Baumgart will receive daily performance data via pulse belts through a special app.
The players are expected to maintain some form of fitness activities during the non-training period. The coach stated, "In my opinion, we ought to establish a strong foundation before training officially begins on July 1. This would allow us to focus solely on soccer leading up to the commencement of the season."
Due to an upcoming quarter-final match scheduled for July 5 in Hamburg, the team will not have access to Volkspark's pitches or dressing rooms. The club is planning a four to six-day training camp in Schleswig-Holstein or Lower Saxony instead. A training camp in Austria is also planned for the second half of July. Three to four test matches and a season opener are also scheduled.
HSV needs to give up Volksparkstadion to UEFA for the upcoming European Championship, with the pitch being replaced. The first match, Netherlands versus Poland, is slated for June 16. Consequently, the players cleared their lockers on Monday, leaving the dressing room with bags in hand.
Ransford Königsdörffer (22) and Immanuel Pherai (23) were the first professionals to leave, at 11:13 a.m., while Baumgart remained the last, leaving at 12:26 p.m., and driving off from the Volkspark.
