Bayer Leaving for Dublin - Alonso begins his quest for another championship!

The Bayer Leverkusen squad left Cologne at 11:30 am on Tuesday for their journey to Dublin. On Wednesday night (9:00 pm in the live coverage), the team will be striving for victory in the Europa League final against Atalanta Bergamo.

Just before departing, sports director Simon Rolfes (42) shared his thoughts: "Saturday was a very memorable day for the club with the trophy win. Now, we've packed a suitcase for the final in Dublin and another for Berlin, which is a strange yet amazing situation."

Rolfes spoke about their opponents: "Atalanta is a top-notch club, very physical. Their coach has had a clear game plan for years, and that's why they sign their players. They deserve to be in the final; it'll be a highly intense match."

Florian Wirtz (21), the Bundesliga Player of the Season, is predicted to propel Bayer to a second title in the final.

Rolfes commented on Wirtz's achievement: "It's a significant honor for him. We're all proud. It's exceptional for someone his age to earn this accolade. He's also deserving of it due to his outstanding performances, which helped us clinch the title."

Wirtz recovered from thigh injuries in time for the match against Augsburg.

Sports boss Simon Rolfes faced reporters before departure

"It was great that he played for half an hour. His condition is improving day by day. He took the opportunity to recharge beforehand. He'll be in top form for the two finals. And we'll need him in the end. Flo is a game-changer who motivates everyone, even fans who aren't fans of our team."

Rolfes addressed Bayer's aspirations for the double: "We're heading into the last two games with a blend of tension and relaxation. We've accomplished the most crucial goal, winning the championship title. Now, we can go all out to secure two more accolades."

Over 12,000 fans are set to accompany the German champions to Ireland.

Rolfes remarked about the fans' support: "Their enthusiasm has developed over the years. This season has further increased it. Respect the fans who are traveling to Dublin, as it's not easy to get there. We'll have a fantastic atmosphere and possibly a slight edge in the stands."
