Unbridled joy fills the sports arena! - All reports on the astonishing occurrence in Bochum

"Is this getting anymore exciting?!"

Following a 0-3 home loss against Düsseldorf, barely anyone at Bochum thought they'd escape relegation. But then there was the spectacular 180-degree turnaround: VfL won 6-5 in the penalty shootout, causing Fortuna's promotion dreams to shatter. What a comeback for the Bochumers! At the moment, no plans for a party have been set in stone, but there's definitely plenty of humor circulating.

Maxi Wittek (28): "I know how to celebrate. I've experienced a lot during my career, even with 1860 Munich. Today's game surpassed any Spielberg movie... this was more than just a crime."

Nach Luthes gehaltenen Elfmeter gab es für die Bochumer kein Halten mehr

Philipp Hofmann (31): "We witnessed the impossible in football today. You have to take your hat off for the team's performance. After the 2-0, there was a wave of euphoria through the team, then came the 3-0, and then I knew we could do it. This event is exceptionally rare in German football, and we should all be proud."

Kevin Stöger (30): "For me, it's just a cola at the moment. I don't like beer. But later, there will definitely be something else. This game played out exactly as we'd dreamt. We've definitely earned our place in the league."

Anthony Losilla (38): "This is just typical VfL Bochum. We can only achieve something like this. The game followed our plan. I've been brainstorming every night about how we could pull it off. Now I just want to enjoy it."

Tim Oermann (20): "What happens in the locker room at the moment isn't for public consumption. I can't decipher what's going on, but that last penalty save from Luthe wasn't my last beer. I've never moved so fast when Luthe saved that final penalty. My adrenaline was used up. There's been a lot of anger in the past few weeks, but it no longer matters. Now we're just going to let loose."

VfL-Trainer Heiko Butscher (43) kämpfte nach dem Spiel mit den Tränen

Noah Loosli (27): "My last-minute block was undoubtedly crucial. I don't know what happened in that moment. We've endured a great deal of insults throughout the season, but that we managed to retain our professionalism under such circumstances is remarkable. It fits the VfL: here, everything is connected to drama."

Patrick Fabian, Sports Director (36): "The players have managed to flip the seemingly impossible away game result. The fact that the penalty shootout also went our way is fantastic. I'm drained, but once Luthe made that decisive save, everything exploded. But now we're just exhausted."

Für Ersatzkeeper Andreas Luthe (37) war es womöglich das letzte Spiel seiner Karriere

Marc Lettau, Sports Director (38): "My pulse is still at 360 and won't be returning to normal anytime soon. After we were almost dismissed after the away game, coming back and winning is astounding. I'm really happy for Andi Luthe. It would have been a shame for his career to end with a game like this."
