The Picturesque Region of Saxon Switzerland - Airlift of 71-year-old tourist following accidental fall from cliff edge.

The Bad Schandau emergency response team was prompted into action at 7:35 pm. An elderly traveler had suffered a leg injury while falling down at the Schrammstein observation point. A group of six emergency workers from Schandau made their way to the incident site. As both rescue helicopters were in use elsewhere, the land rescue team began planning an on-foot rescue mission.

It took the rescue squad nearly 45 minutes to make their way to the accident scene. The injured woman was attended to medically and then carefully loaded into a portable stretcher. While organizing safe obstacles on the tricky pathway for their descent, they got word that a helicopter was fueled and ready for operation after a crew switch inside.

By 9 o'clock that evening, with only the fading light of day, the female tourist was hoisted from the sharp outcrops within Saxon Switzerland to the helicopter and transported to a hospital in Saxony.
