Social matters under scrutiny. - Additional individuals have come forward alleging mistreatment in youth welfare facilities.

After disclosing a study on a widespread exploitation ring involving child and youth protective services in Germany, more accusers have stepped forward. The University of Hildesheim's research team states not all subjugations mentioned are directly associated with the actions involving the social educator Helmut Kentler. Other individuals have also reached out to the researchers. The team is currently conducting interviews and collecting information from both victims and witnesses to help determine "where the situation is heading."

In February, scientists publicized a different report on Kentler's abuse network, conducted on behalf of Berlin's state. Kentler was of the belief that criminally inclined men would provide better care than other foster parents, and thus deliberately placed children and young adults with convicted pedophiles. Further studies from Hildesheim's university revealed this circle of exploiters stretched beyond Berlin, involving people from universities, research institutes, training and educational facilities, and the Protestant church.

Incidents ranged from the perpetrators committing sexual assault, allowing it to happen, or supporting it in some capacity. Speaking during the release of the findings, the research team emphasized the emotional healing process was far from complete. Anyone affected and willing to come forward may still contact the team.

Berlin Youth Administration advocates for a federal revaluation

The administration encourages an ongoing political review on this matter. A spokesperson stated in response to inquiries that a comprehensive nationwide reassessment is "urgently" needed. At the summer conference of youth and family ministers from all German federal states, the Berlin authority aims to propose a nationwide inquiry. "The goal is to progress further with the reappraisal process and consent to the involvement of all states, as only a national reassessment can uncover vital information."
