In 2022, there were multiple demonstrations. - Activist's Death Denied by Iran's Judicial System
In 2022, Iranian authorities violently abused and killed a teenage activist during mass protests, as revealed by confidential and unpublished documents. As stated by the British broadcaster BBC on Tuesday, this pertains to the tragic incident of 16-year-old Nika Shakarami, whose death in September 2022 sparked outrage in both Iran and internationally. Upon hearing the news, Iran's judiciary refuted the report, calling it propaganda.
According to the research, three security members had sexually assaulted Shakarami in a van when she was captured. In an attempt to defend herself, she was brutally beaten, resulting in her death. The courageous activist was actively involved in demonstrations before her untimely demise. A video eventually circulated on social media showed Shakarami burning headscarves in protest against the Islamic Republic's oppressive regime.
The security forces recorded her actions and recognized her. The BBC further explained that the scandal was brought to light by an internal investigation conducted by the powerful Revolutionary Guards. The documents disclose how the security forces attempted to conceal the young woman's death at the time. The authenticity of the documents could not be independently verified.
Family disagrees with official account
On the same day, responding to the report, Iran's judiciary dismissed the claims and condemned Western media for disseminating false narratives against the Islamic Republic. In addition, an article published on Misan justice portal declared that Shakarami died due to an unfortunate accident and not during the demonstrations. In late 2022, the police asserted that Shakarami had fallen from a multi-storey building, and her body was found by neighbors the following day.
The family immediately called foul, disputing the official explanation. They accused the secret service of engineering her death.
The death of Kurdish activist Jina Mahsa Amini in the autumn of 2022 spurred the biggest protests ever seen in the history of the Islamic Republic. Young demonstrators rallied against the oppressive system of government. Amini was arrested for wearing her headscarf incorrectly by the infamous moral police, and she passed away shortly afterwards. An expert panel commissioned by the United Nations concluded that physical violence led to her demise.
