Canal drama in Münster unfolds - A young female saves two girls from falling into a canal.
On Wednesday, the Dortmund-Ems Canal in Münster (North Rhine-Westphalia) witnessed an exciting event. Two five-year-old girls and the older sister (10) of one of them were playing on the canal bank. In a dramatic turn of events, one of the younger girls accidentally fell into the water.
Her companion, also five, hurriedly rode her scooter to nearby homes, shouting frantically "Water, water!" She then returned to the scene and bravely followed her friend into the canal to help her. The older sister remained on the bank.
A 24-year-old local resident observed the situation and took action, diving into the water with the girls and successfully pulling them to safety. No one was injured due to her heroic intervention.
Several people had already phoned the emergency services before the police arrived on the scene. Fortunately, when the officers got there, the girls were safely back on land, although completely soaked. They were then handed over to their joyous parents.
However, the police are keen to remind everyone that such acts of bravery should not be attempted unless you're trained and equipped to handle such situations. In this case, the outcome was positive, but it's best to avoid putting yourself in danger.
