A woman from Las Vegas is accused of running over her boyfriend after discovering a tampon from a stranger in the trash.
A woman is expected to face court on Wednesday over an open murder charge, accused of driving her car into her boyfriend out of jealous rage.
Julie Bush, aged 30, is said to have aimed the vehicle at him after spotting a tampon in a bin, authorities claimed.
Emergency medical services took the injured man to a nearby hospital. He was in a critical state on that same day. Injuries included brain bleeding and collapsed lungs, according to a news story. He regrettably passed away the next day.
Originally, as her boyfriend was still alive, Bush was charged with driving under the influence causing serious harm, domestic battery, attempted murder, and drug possession. The attempted murder charge was upgraded to murder after her boyfriend's death.
After an autopsy, the Clark County coroner's office confirmed the victim was Richard Penardo, Jr., aged 51.
Bush & Fentanyl
At the time, Bush was under the influence of fentanyl and accused Penardo of removing a tampon, police demonstrated. This resulted in a heated argument.
Then, Penardo allegedly fetched a lengthy steel chain from the house, and approached Bush's car. He began to brandish the chain, shattering the windows of her vehicle, the police noted. This provoked Bush to press the gas pedal, causing the vehicle to collide with Penardo.
Body Airborne, Wall Impact
The force of this impact catapulted his body into the air. Upon landing, it slammed into a brick wall, as per a Las Vegas TV station KLAS. Bush reportedly drove over his body.
Emotionally distraught, she was witnessed crying hysterically over her boyfriend's severely injured body, according to KLAS.
Following her arrest, police discovered bags of suspected methamphetamine (meth) and fentanyl in her car.
Bush was detained by the police. Judicial officer Daniel Westmeyer denied granting bail to Bush at a court appearance on Saturday.
The woman whose tampon was found and discarded in the trash remains anonymous.
Bush and Penardo had been in a romantic relationship for at least a year, KLAS divulged.
It is revealed that Penardo had a previous criminal history. He had served time in prison for forgery, accessory to felony, conspiracy to commit murder, and insurance fraud. His conviction and imprisonment were centered around the death of Maria Marino in 2008. The cause of her demise was ligature strangulation.
Her body was discarded on Mount Charleston. Two women and Penardo had been part of the team that disposed of her corpse.
Penardo also served a prison sentence of three to ten years for unemployment insurance fraud, the records disclosed by KLAS mentioned.
