One person lost their life; A9 is shut down. - A truck collides with the site of a prior accident, causing damage to a police vehicle.
Around 10:30 p.m. on a Sunday evening, a collision occurred between two vehicles on the A9, the route connecting Dessau (Saxony-Anhalt) and Thurland. Luckily, there were no injuries sustained during this accident. However, events quickly took a turn for the worse.
As the authorities were working to secure the scene, a truck driver crashed into the area. A police car parked on the shoulder was left in pieces and a policewoman who had just documented the initial incident was severely injured.
The driver of the truck was similarly hurt and required hospital treatment, while efforts to save the life of yet another victim - a breakdown mechanic - came too late. The following morning, the route towards Leipzig was still closed. The exact reason behind this subsequent accident is still being probed.
