Tire burst leads to significant crash. - A truck catches fire, urgently requiring highway repairs.
South of Hamburg, the A39 highway connecting Handorf (Lüneburg district) and Winsen (Harburg district) has been shut down since last night. The reason for the closure is due to emergency repairs after a recent incident.
It seems a road train caught fire in the construction zone between Handorf and Winsen-Ost junctions early one Tuesday evening. Officials speculated that a tire on the truck might have blown out, leading to the sudden fire.
The blaze heavily damaged both the road and asphalt, which necessitated the complete closure of the highway heading towards Hamburg. Autobahn GmbH, the federal highway company, informed the public on Wednesday morning that crews were on-site, working to fix the damage.
The affected stretch of A39 is projected to remain closed for the repair work until Wednesday afternoon. Autobahn GmbH also warned of possible traffic congestion and long commute times during the morning rush hour. Fortunately, the A39 has reopened towards Lüneburg.
