Austrian authorities probe homicide in Tyrol region. - A three-year-old boy was allowed to die of starvation by his parents.

A three-year-old child was discovered deceased in an apartment on Monday. The investigators concluded that the boy had perished from starvation and a study against the parents is underway.

The police declared on Wednesday that they learned of the young boy's passing on Monday. "As per the preliminary autopsy outcomes, the child perished due to significant malnutrition," the police reported.

The 26 and 25-year-old parents were detained. Three other children of the couple, aged one, three, and six, were delivered to child and youth welfare services.

The father had alerted the authorities himself on Whit Monday (May 20) that his son was lifeless in bed. Upon arrival of the emergency services, the child was already lifeless. The couple were initially hospitalized due to an unusual psychological condition.

On Wednesday afternoon, the parents were detained on suspicion of murder as they left the hospital. "We must suppose that the parents fed the child very poorly," Hansjörg Mayr, spokesperson for the Innsbruck public prosecutor's office is reported by Tiroler Tageszeitung as saying. "It is suspected that the father and mother accepted the child's demise."

According to ORF, the child had been inadequately nourished for a considerable period of time. This was the preliminary finding of a forensic autopsy.

The three other offspring - girls aged one, three (twin sisters), and six - had developed normally and displayed no signs of malnourishment. They have been under the care of child and youth welfare services since Monday. The family was described as unassuming by authorities.
