Tram collision in Dresden city - A streetcar collides with a van, causing severe injuries to the driver (48).
At 8:14 a.m. on a Monday, a streetcar on line 13 crashed into a van in the Mickten neighborhood of Dresden, Germany. The van driver, age 48, was injured severely and pinned within the van.
To extricate the driver, emergency responders had to employ hydraulic rescue equipment. Once freed, the man was transported to a hospital. Fortunately, the streetcar driver was unscathed, as were the streetcar passengers.
Authorities are currently probing the cause of the accident. As a result, Sternstraße was made impassable in both directions during the rescue efforts. A total of 24 emergency workers were present at the scene.
