Collision occurs. - A skilled diver passed away two days after experiencing an emergency in the Rhine.

Two days after an incident at the Rhine near Kappel-Grafenhausen (Ortenau district), a seasoned diver has tragically passed away. The diver's death was confirmed in the hospital on a Friday, as relayed by the police. Initially, it was uncertain whether technical complications or a medical cause was responsible for the unfortunate occurrence, causing the water police to commence an investigation.

On a Wednesday, the 60-year-old diver was engaged in cleaning work at a gate responsible for releasing water from a structure known as an intake port to a polder during floods - a critical task for preventing excess water from building up and causing damage. At first, the diver communicated using a radio, but due to his lack of response, rescue efforts were promptly deployed. Fishermen found the diver in the water shortly thereafter and transported him to the shore. Subsequently, a helicopter was called in to airlift him to a hospital in a critical state.
