During the Whitsun holiday, - A party venue has put a ban on the sale of melons.
Sadly, during the Whitsun break in Lignano, young Austrians tend to excessively drink, harming the town's reputation. Lignano's mayor, Laura Giorgi, informed the Austria Press Agency (APA) about this.
To prevent this, the local authorities have stepped up their policing efforts and tightened the rules. Interestingly, selling melons is also now prohibited.
As detailed by "heute.at," drinking alcohol in public during Whitsun is forbidden, and stores can only sell beer, wine, schnapps, and the like until midnight (restaurants until 3 am).
So, why are melons, of all things, also banned?
The explanation: many partygoers would continually fill these huge fruits with high-proof beverages, then scatter the remnants of the rinds across the city.
Shutting down beaches at night
Camping on the beach and swimming at night are prohibited too. Nobody can be in the sea after 8 pm, and the beaches even get closed entirely between 1 and 6 am.
Lignano Sabbiadoro, the Italian seaside resort, is also cracking down on people exposing too much skin in the city. Since May, it's forbidden to wear bikinis and boxer shorts in the streets, even separate from the "Tutto Gas" campaign.
However, these regulations don't appear to deter the party crowd. Based on booking.com's travel portal, almost all accommodation in Lignano Sabbiadoro for Pentecost is already completely booked.
