Arrangements underway for a vehicle shuttle program. - A new German spacecraft is set to provide supplies to space stations.
As per the strategies of prominent space organizations (NASA, ESA) and private companies (like SpaceX), there'll soon be a number of space stations orbiting Earth and even around the Moon. These permanent stations in space require regular access to technology and provisions for the astronauts inhabiting them.
In turn, this necessitates the establishment of a shuttle service to space. This is where The Exploration Company enters the picture. This German-French startup is developing the Nyx capsule - a new ride to space that will first carry cargo, and later, astronauts.
Flexible and Refuelable Reusable Spaceship
The Nyx capsule is being designed to be a reusable, highly flexible, and refuelable spacecraft capable of flying on eco-friendly fuel. It's also meant to dock with various space stations. Construction of the Nyx capsule is underway in Munich and Bordeaux. A test flight is slated for summer. At the helm of the startup is Helene Huby, a former Airbus manager.
Securing Major Partnerships
Huby has been making headway towards her objectives. The Exploration Company has already secured contracts with notable players: it was announced in September 2023 that they'd signed a preliminary contract for cargo services with Axiom Space Inc., a commercial space station based in the USA. Axiom Space is a private American space company.
A week ago, the European Space Agency ESA revealed its plan to hire The Exploration Company to create a commercial service by 2028 for ferrying cargo to the International Space Station ISS and back to Earth.
And today, their third accomplishment: The Exploration Company proclaimed the completion of a preliminary contract with Starlab Space for three cargo missions. Starlab Space is a commercial space station in orbit, a joint venture of the companies Voyager Space, Airbus, and Mitsubishi.
The future of space travel is intertwined with ours - we can't afford to miss the bandwagon, as we tragically witnessed in the IT and AI industries years ago.
