Alba reaches the semi-finals. - A mid-game conversation turns into a real job interview.
Alba Berlin emerges victorious in their third match against Telekom Baskets Bonn in the play-off quarter-finals of the Easycredit Basketball Bundesliga, securing a 3:0 lead in the best-of-five series.
With a 93:86 win, Berlin becomes the first team to advance to the last four, while Bonn's summer vacation is on the horizon. The eventual opponents in the semifinals will be determined by the Chemnitz/Vechta game.
A curious moment during halftime involves Bonn's Sports Director Savo Milovic appearing on DYn Mike. He is praised excessively by TV pundit and MBC pro Kostja Mushidi, who played with him at Rhöndorf in the ProB.
Milovic and Mushidi share a laugh, with the latter implying a job interview. Dyn commentator Chris Schmidt makes a sarcastic remark: "Was that a job interview just now, or what?"
Milovic agrees: "A job interview!"
An interesting occurrence midway through the first quarter sees Alba's Johannes Thiemann, a world champion, clinging onto the hoop with one hand while defending against Bonn's Kennedy. Despite the ball not going in, the referees award a basket and two points for Thiemann. He apologetically raises his hands in response.
Schmidt is shocked: "Wow, that's a strange situation. I'm sorry, dear world champion! - That was quite befuddled, right?"
Mushidi acknowledges: "I don't know either. The only right decision."
Schmidt elaborates: "To spare the other player the impact of landing on them. He realizes it quickly. Sometimes, even acts of fair play can result in counter points. It's just the rules. There's no other way to interpret them."
Thiemann endures a scare
Excitement strikes again during the second quarter, and Thiemann is at the center of it once more.
He is struck on the hip by Turudic and, unfortunately, catches his stomach area as well. Thiemann writhes in pain, but manages to continue. Mushidi remarks, "Thiemann is a tough dog! He can take it!"
The first quarter ends with a tie at 20:20. While the second quarter was closely contested, Bonn leads by a point at halftime. 5,200 fans filled the Telekom Dome, creating an intense atmosphere.
In the final stages, Bonn fans show university spirit by singing and cheering for their team despite their loss.
