Nationwide Comparison of Universities - A meal at the canteen in Bocholt costs merely 73 cents.

In the city of Bocholt, located in Münsterland (NRW), you can enjoy a hot meal for just 73 cents. This actually includes a portion of pasta. Meanwhile, in Ulm (Baden-Württemberg), students have to pay the most for meals, with an average cost of 4.69 euros. Betrugstest.com conducted a comparison of over 150 university canteens in Germany and analyzed them further.

To start off, they filtered out all the locations that currently offer menus and then classified the dishes into four categories: vegan, vegetarian, meat, and fish. They also eliminated any dishes that weren't full-fledged meals, such as desserts or side dishes. After that, they evaluated the prices of these categories in various cities across Germany.

The top 7 most affordable canteen options are situated in NRW and Hesse, with an average cost of 1.20 euros or 1.40 euros for a meal. These locations include Bocholt, Offenbach, Rüsselsheim, Wiesbaden, Kleve, Kamp-Lintfort, and Mönchengladbach.

On the other end of the spectrum, there are some cities where the prices are surprisingly high. Ulm, Aschaffenburg, and Marburg make up this group with average costs of 4.32, 4.12, and 4.12 euros per lunch, respectively. Worms, Ludwigshafen, Landau, and Germersheim are also quite expensive, as they each charge 4 euros for a meal.

The most expensive university canteens according to the ranking

The comparison also found that the average price for vegan meals across Germany is 2.60 euros. The least expensive choice seems to be vegan, as it allows students to save money. However, in Ulm, they charge an unusually high fee for this option - a whopping 4.95 euros.

In general, the average price for vegetarian dishes is 2.80 euros. For fish and meat dishes, the cost is 3.32 and 3.35 euros, respectively. Interestingly, Lippstadt has the highest price for fish meals at 5.60 euros. On the opposite side, Ulm holds the record for the highest price for meat dishes, with 4.85 euros.
