The truck was unable to maneuver any longer. - A man perishes in a collision involving incoming vehicles.
A 40-year-old man from Löhne (North Rhine-Westphalia) was behind the wheel of his Mazda as he drove along the B 238 highway, heading towards Langenholzhausen in the afternoon. Without warning, the vehicle crossed into the wrong lane during a right-hand curve and collided with a hillside before coming back down to the pavement.
According to the police report, a 66-year-old truck driver saw what was happening and swerved into the other lane to try and avoid the collision. However, this evasive maneuver wasn't enough to prevent the Mazda's driver's side from ending up underneath the truck's passenger side.
The Mazda was severely damaged and the driver was so badly injured that he died at the scene of the accident. The road was shut down for hours as a special police accident team from Bielefeld collected evidence.
The truck driver, who hails from Kalletal, and his 29-year-old co-driver from Bünde were both taken to the hospital as a precaution but have since been discharged.
