Incidents of mishaps - A man is fatally hit by a truck.
A person walking on the A8 highway near Gruibingen (in the Göppingen district) has been struck and killed by a truck. The traffic on A8 came to a complete halt between Aichelberg and Merklingen on Tuesday morning as a result of the unfortunate incident.
A 55-year-old truck driver was heading towards Stuttgart on that day when he smashed into the back of another car without applying the brakes. The reason for this initial crash was not immediately known. The driver's vehicle then got entangled in a crash barrier injuring the 27-year-old driver of the second car. The second car subsequently hit a tractor-trailer, broke through a fence, and hit multiple trees. The 27-year-old driver sustained serious injuries as a result.
The truck driver who caused the incident was initially reported as having only minor injuries. For an unknown reason, he then darted onto the oncoming lane and was hit by the same truck, which had not had enough time to brake. The man's injuries were ultimately fatal as he passed away at the scene of the accident.
A police statement was released, detailing the events.
