Decision on poison-related homicide case - A man added aconite to a woman's yogurt.
The judge, Uda Schmidt, stated, "The court is convinced that the defendant planned and prepared to poison his wife since March 2023." She elaborated, "You deceitfully murdered your wife using the most lethal poisonous plant in Central Europe."
Andreas P. (57) continuously rejected all allegations, but this didn't alter the outcome. He will spend the rest of his life in prison.
The reason: Andrea L. (61), the co-accused mistress, allegedly pressured Andreas P. into either leaving his wife or revealing their secret sexual relationship to Marlen P. The couple had tried to hide their relationship from Marlen P.
Rather than choosing either option, Andreas P. is accused of mixing aconite into Marlen P.'s yogurt.
When an emergency doctor admitted Marlen P. to the hospital on April 30, 2023, doctors assumed it was a heart attack and documented 'heart attack' as the cause of death on the death certificate.
However, five months later, the handcuffs were locked: After the co-defendant confided in a friend about her lover's plans to kill her with poison, she informed the police.
Crucial evidence: Chat history
The chat history was incriminating for the accused couple. The judge told the accused, "When the police arrived at their doorstep, they erased everything and discreetly sent a warning message to their lover." Andrea L. also deleted all chat histories.
Nevertheless, the data forensics experts retrieved the messages.
On the day Marlen P. became sick, the rival wrote to her lover, "Good morning, this is your final opportunity ..." shortly after, Andreas P. replied, "She's in the bathroom vomiting, her mouth is numb, and her legs are tingling, she ate it this morning."
Four experts unanimously concluded that the circumstances of Marlen P.'s death exhibited clear signs of acetonin poisoning.
The mistress faces 30 months imprisonment for coercion and concealing a crime.
The verdict is not final.
