Severe wounds to the eyes and facial area. - A man (31 years) was attacked with acid at his front door.
A horrific incident took place in Rosenheim, Bavaria, on Monday night. According to early police reports, the doorbell of an apartment in Pernauerstraße was rung at around 11 pm. When a 31-year-old man opened the door, he was met with an unknown person who poured a corrosive liquid onto his face.
Slow getaway for the perpetrator
The masked attacker managed to escape, leaving behind no clear lead.
The victim was rushed to a local hospital and later transferred to a specialized clinic in Munich due to the severe facial wounds, especially around his eyes. The authorities have confirmed that the man's eyes and body could face permanent damage from this attack, and he'll have to undergo numerous surgeries.
"The Rosenheim resident is likely to experience lasting damage to his eyes and body as a result of this violent assault," commented a police spokesperson.
Investigators have been questioning neighbors and examining the scene. The victim's immediate surroundings are also under investigation. But without confirmation from the Bavarian State Office of Criminal Investigation and the results of the liquid analysis, they're still stumped.
The unknown assailant
Descriptions of the suspect include a tall man, standing anywhere between 1.70 to 1.80 meters, dressed in dark clothing, and wearing a balaclava.
Police are calling on anyone who noticed any suspicious activities in the vicinity of Pernauerstraße between 9 and 10 pm on May 13 to come forward. Anyone with information can contact 08031/2000.
