A lethal car accident occurred near Schmelz. - A judge sanctions an arrest order following a skipped accident scene.
Yesterday morning, there was a car collision on the L145 road in Saarland, between Schattertriesch and Limbach. The police stated that a 26-year-old driver strayed into the lane of oncoming traffic at approximately 3:50 a.m., resulting in a crash with the car of a 22-year-old driver. Regrettably, the latter passed away due to his serious injuries at the scene of the accident. Both vehicles were badly damaged and deemed total loses.
The 26-year-old driver and his 21-year-old passenger sustained minor injuries and absconded on foot. However, the police managed to apprehend them following an intense search.
Warrant for arrest
The young man is now in police custody in Saarbrücken, having been issued a warrant by a judge.
The force of the impact was so intense that one of the vehicles involved had its engine block ripped out. The road itself was also damaged. The highway remained closed to traffic until midday while the crash site was being cleared up.
Besides the police, the DRK rescue service dispatched an emergency doctor and ambulance, the fire department, and an emergency chaplain.
The reason for the accident on the Saarland country road near Schmelz remains unknown. An expert has been assigned to prepare a report on the incident.
