A guard for the Las Vegas Aces basketball team has been arrested on charges of domestic violence.
Las Vegas Aces basketball player Riquna Williams, a former WNBA champion, was arrested for general domestic violence against her spouse on Tuesday.
Williams, 33, was charged with five felonies, which involve various types of domestic battery, coercion with the application of force, along with assault using a weapon. She also has four misdemeanor charges of domestic battery.
Williams was permitted to leave custody immediately after her initial court appearance on Wednesday. The fact that she has no prior criminal record and connections to her local community were taken into account, so she didn't have to make a bail payment. Nonetheless, Justice of the Peace Rebecca Saxe instructed her to avoid her accuser and to abide by alcohol monitoring until the following court date on August 2.
"The court holds worry about the highly violent nature of the accusations in this case - that they were reported to have occurred over an extended period of time," Saxe said.
Court records indicate that Williams became married in Clark County in September. Her attorney, Ryan Bashor, informed Saxe on Wednesday that her partner had left Las Vegas and the couple is now split.
Previous Problems
Williams, whose nickname is "Bay Bay," scored an average of 6.7 points in the most recent season, but is currently absent from the ongoing season, which would have been her 11th in the WNBA. Her harm is linked to a back injury. She didn't speak at the hearing at Las Vegas Justice Court, at which she was captive behind safety glass and wearing a grey Raiders T-shirt.
Back in 2019, when she played for the Los Angeles Sparks, Williams was prohibited for 10 games without pay because of a domestic battery arrest. She's never faced criminal prosecution.
Williams signed up with the Aces as a free agent ahead of the 2021 season.
