Following a remarkable event in soccer - A German coach inks a lengthy agreement in England.
Hansi Flick's former assistant, along with co-coaches Sascha Lense (48, previously at Schalke and RB Leipzig), Henrik Pedersen (46, e.g. Eintracht Braunschweig), and Sal Bibbo (49, e.g. Arsenal), are renewing their contracts at the Championship team.
Röhl, a former assistant coach to Ralph Hasenhüttl (currently at Wolfsburg) and Hansi Flick at RB Leipzig, FC Southampton, FC Bayern, and the national team, took over the club from a northern English working-class city in the fall of last year. This was his first head coaching role! The team had no wins in 13 games and only had three points to its name, making it a challenging mission.
The challenge of saving the team from relegation
Röhl assembled a coaching team that included mental coach Lense and assistant coach Pedersen. Together, they embarked on an extraordinary journey to catch up ground. With 50 points from the remaining 35 games, they managed to salvage the club, even though they couldn't bring in any high-priced new signings in the winter due to financial constraints. Röhl, who is also responsible for transfers as the team manager, said, "It wasn't easy - a real struggle for me."
Finally, on the penultimate matchday, Sheffield secured a non-relegation spot with a win against West Bromwich. On the last matchday, they sealed their safety with a win in Sunderland.
Now, this English-German success story is ready for new chapters.
