The Rockefellers of Germany were his relatives. - A Fugger family member unites with a rich cocoa heir.
Alexander Erbgraf von Fugger-Babenhausen (42), the head of the vast forestry, agricultural, and real estate holdings of the merchant family since 2008, married international businesswoman and art expert Gabriella Beatriz Stoudemire (36) in Augsburg's St. Moritz Church on Saturday. She is from the "Cortés" chocolate dynasty in Puerto Rico.
A grand wedding ceremony with international aristocracy and jet set
The wedding ceremony, attended by dignitaries such as Duke Franz of Bavaria (90), Ludwig Prince of Bavaria (42) and his wife Sophie (34), Jean-Christophe Prince Napoléon (37, leader of the House of Bonaparte) and his wife Olympia (36), Rolf Sachs' daughter Roya (33), and Hannah Bronfman (36), daughter of mega-investor Edgar Miles Bronfman (69, Warner Music Group), was performed by three reverends: Augsburg Bishop Bertram Meier (63), Pastor Helmut Haug (58) from St. Moritz, and Jacek Wyrd Wyrwich (58) from St. Moritz and Moritz.
Music by Handel, Mozart, and Orlando di Lasso played during the ceremony. The Augsburg Cathedral Boys' Choir sang a serenade.
Gabriella's dress designed by Taylor Swift's stylist
Gabriella said yes to Alexander in a romantic, off-the-shoulder silk dress by renowned New York designer Gilles Mendel, who also makes dresses for Taylor Swift. The groom wore a London-style suit with a light blue vest. Their son, Otto (1), added to the joy in his light blue overalls.
A happy day with cheers and a flurry of petals thrown outside the church, heartfelt speeches at the reception in the ladies' courtyard of the Fugger-Stadtpalais, and a dinner hosted by delicatessen entrepreneur Michael Käfer (66) in the barn below Wellenburg Castle, the couple's home.
MENU: For appetizers, ladies enjoyed gazpacho, while gentlemen had pene a la vodka. The main course featured beef tagliata with rocket, and dessert was a frozen pina colada.
Alexander and Gabriella postponed their church wedding
Their joy, however, was tinged with sadness. Alexander and Gabriella, engaged since summer 2021, had initially planned to wed at church in May 2022. But Gabriella's father, Sterling Cranford Stoudemire, became seriously ill and ultimately succumbed to cancer in March 2023 at the age of 73.
The couple then held a civil ceremony in Babenhausen, their ancestral home, and began planning a family. They hoped that their ailing grandfather would see his grandchild. But he passed away just a few weeks before the birth of their son Otto.
Now, Alexander and Gabriella long for another child.
