A defendant in New York state has confessed to the crime of unlawful gambling.
A person is set to escape jail time following their confession this week over an underground sports gambling scheme.
Louis P. Ferrari II, 42, residing in Rochester, NY, owned up to his charges of conspiring to transmit unlawful wagering information and operating an unlicensed gambling establishment on Monday.

News reports from local Rochester TV station WROC suggest Ferrari won't be imprisoned under the proposed plea deal.
He was at risk of a five-year jail sentence and fines of up to $250,000, according to Trini E. Ross, the U.S. Attorney in New York State's Western District.
The court proceeding happened before Chief Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford, and the sentencing is set for August 7.
Federal prosecutors asserted that Ferrari and his associates, including Dominic Sprague, Anthony Amato, Tomasso Sessa, Joseph Lombardo, and Jeffrey Boscarino, formed an illicit bookmaking business. This operation generated about $2K daily.
Furthermore, Ferrari and Amato managed sports betting accounts for Sprague, Boscarino, and Lombardo on "sport700.com," an unlawful gambling site. They both collected money from gambling enthusiasts, authorities stated.
Beyond their unlawful sports gambling site, Ferrari reportedly managed an underground poker room and laundered cash through his legitimate enterprise, Ferrari Excavating. His earnings totaled more than $1 million, as reported by WROC.
In addition, Ferrari purportedly assaulted a debtor, police disclosed.

"The charges in this case claimed that Louis Ferrari was the head of a sports betting website," federal prosecutor Melissa Marangola told WROC.
The website accepted illegal sports wagers, and he organized it. His co-accused have all pleaded guilty by now. He was the remaining holdout, as you could say. They've all admitted to similar charges and were part of the same conspiracy."
Homeland Security Investigations, the Internal Revenue Service, the New York State Police, the Greece, NY Police Department, and the Rochester Police Department all contributed to the investigation. The Monroe County, NY District Attorney's Office aided the federal prosecutors too.
This vigilance began in September 2020 when an undercover officer participated in a card game involving Ferrari.
