Military action in Elmenhorst - A carport blaze destroys dwelling

Around 1:15 p.m., a fire erupted in a carport with a car parked inside. Witnesses who spotted the flames contacted the fire department.

When firefighters arrived at the scene at 1:32 p.m., the carport was completely on fire. To make matters worse, the fire had already spread to the adjacent house. Flames oozed out of the roof, and there was a significant amount of smoke.

Multiple fire departments arrived at the scene, each with their crews. They worked together to put out the flames but had to do so under breathing protection.

The home's residents had already fled to safety, but an ambulance arrived to check on them.

The entire roof of the house had to be taken off in order to reach the remaining embers. This was not completed until approximately 6:30 p.m.

As a precautionary measure, an excavator was later used to demolish the carport. The house is currently closed off, and professionals are now investigating the cause of the fire.
