The person responsible for a crime disappeared for five years. - A bouncer was run over, resulting in a 5-year sentence

On a Monday, a judge in Düsseldorf Regional Court delivered the verdict: a 28-year-old man will spend the next five years and two months in prison.

Retrospective: New Year 2018

The suspect was reportedly celebrating with over ten people in a VIP area of the club on the night of the incident. It is said that a brawl ensued around 5:30 am. Consequently, Ali Mohand A. along with his two companions were thrown out of the club. He refused to accept this.

The BMW crashed into this rear entrance

He climbed into a black BMW 3 Series with Munich license plates and floored the accelerator! He shot from Graf-Adolf-Straße into the 3.30-meter-wide passageway towards the rear entrance of the club. He aimed his vehicle directly at the doormen. Two security guards (28, 31) managed to escape to the side. Their colleague Sinan G. (36 at the time) was slammed head-on by the BMW Rambo, but the attack was far from over.

Since he missed two of his targets, he turned around like a wrong-way driver and traveled as far as the Berliner Allee junction. He careened back onto the tracks and rammed into the injured doorman for the second time. Sinan G.'s life was in peril, and he had to undergo several surgeries.

Continental search operation initiated

The vehicle was later discovered at Frankfurt Airport. At the time, authorities presumed that the Spanish-born perpetrator had fled the country. A continent-wide search for Ali Mohand A. was initiated. In October 2023, he was apprehended in Spain — five years after the incident. He was extradited to Germany.

The Düsseldorf District Court trial commenced in April. The defendant admitted his guilt just before the verdict. However, he was deemed guilty of attempted manslaughter instead of attempted murder.

"I still can't comprehend what transpired," Judge Rainer Drees said regarding the defendant's actions. The Spaniard had acknowledged the bouncer's death. The prosecution demanded six years.

The defendant Ali Mohand A. and his defense lawyer before the Düsseldorf Regional Court

"I'm still baffled by what occurred," his attorney, Daniel Wölky, asserted. "Influenced by alcohol and cocaine at the time, my client was disinhibited on New Year's morning 2018. He didn't even realize he had run over the man," the defendant claimed. "I'm sorry, and all I can do is apologize, though the act is indefensible."
